1. Find out where the electricity, gas and water meters are for the venue (try to do it during a planning visit before you arrive at the venue for the Festival, and ask your landlord for help).

2. Register the venue with SMEasure (www.smeasure.org.uk) – a very useful buildings energy management tool. When you register join the Festivals Edinburgh and Julie’s Bicycle communities through the Communities button.

3. Take and record weekly meter readings where possible and appropriate.

4. Develop (with help from Festivals Edinburgh) a plan to measure and record the amount of waste recycled or disposed of by your organisation in Edinburgh and recording the waste recycled and disposed of each week you are in the venue.

5. Forward this information to Festivals Edinburgh’s Environment Officer.

You should create a display board in your foyer where you can publish any environmental work that you are doing. This is a good place to display your data - especially if you can show year-on-year reductions - an excellent way to communicate to audiences
