Identify a Green Champion
Identify a Green Champion (or more than one in a larger organisation) who is responsible for data gathering, communication and reporting on activities and progress. They will be the Green Venue Initiative’s main point of contact in the organisation and should ideally be senior enough to report on their and the organisation’s actions at regular management meetings and make things happen.
Top Level Buy In
Gain commitment from Chief Executive level that they lead the organisation in actively supporting the aims of the Green Venue Initiative.
Adopt an Environmental Policy
Draft and adopt an environmental policy for your organisation and venue.
Commitment through Contracts
When writing contracts with artists and service providers, mention your involvement in the GVI and ask them to commit to working with you to reduce your environmental impacts.
Spread the Green Venue Guide
Encourage visiting and hiring companies and performing or exhibiting artists to contribute to the Green Venue Initiative.
Benchmark Your Venue
Compare your venue with other similar venues to identify best practice.
Set Carbon Reduction Targets
Set a target for carbon emissions reductions and develop a plan to achieve it.
Involve Your Venue's Owner
Discuss with your venue’s owner your commitment to the Green Venue Initiative and build
into your contract with them ways in which you can work together. You'll both benefit from improving the environmental performance of your use of their building as a venue.
